In his YouTube video on Mario Odyssey, Joe pronounced "Mario" as "Marry-oh," [1] due to his British and Canadian upbringing. [2] Many people took note of the pronunciation, and, in particular, Super Mario Odyssey fans who were upset because of the video's critiques left various comments stating that the pronunciation was incorrect. Out of spite, Joe began to purposefully stress his pronunciation of "Mario," or mispronounce it completely it at times to bother his audience. [3] Now, in streams whenever he's not sure how to pronounce a word, after guessing its pronunciation a couple of times, he sometimes says "Mario?".
