Ghost Pepper-chan is the embodiment of a bottle of pepper. The original artist is Marik Bentusi.
In the third case of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All, one piece of evidence is a bottle of pepper. As the condiment's connection to the case is not established until near the end, Joe wondered about its purpose for a long time. At one point, he made a joke that it was haunted, and chat spammed the phrase "ghost pepper"[1]. Based on that statement, Marik drew a Ghost Pepper-chan.
In the video game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All, specifically the case Turnabout Big Top, a lion tamer's scarf was laced with pepper, causing the lion to sneeze and accidentally kill his tamer during a stunt involving the tamer's head between the lion's jaws. Ghost Pepper-chan elegantly combines the aspects of a grim reaper with that of an unsuspecting pepper pod in the shape of a scythe blade, echoing the grim revelation of the case. Her name specifically references the ghost pepper, a variant so incredibly spicy it has even seen military use. Its homeland of India is prominently reflected in the cut of Ghost Pepper-chan's garbs, adding the cherry on top. There's no ghost pepper in the game, it just sounds spooky and therefore fits the reaper motif. I also could've gone with the Carolina Reaper, but then I would've missed out on the opportunity to draw this cute dress so that's no good.
