The Anime Marble Race
The Anime Marble Race refers to the ongoing event where viewers can try to make Joe watch an anime of their choice. This event started on the 19th of April 2022, shortly after Joe returned from a streaming hiatus. He had been considering getting his viewers to make him watch an anime for years before he actually went through with this idea.
Two Twitch channel point goals were created: "Start the race" for five hundred million Monocoins, and "Buy a marble for the race" for one million Monocoins. "Start the race" was a collective channel point goal, meaning that all viewers could contribute Monocoins towards the goal. "Buy a marble for the race" wasn't, meaning that one viewer would have to save up one million Monocoins to be able to activate it, by winning enough channel point bets. If a viewer activated "Buy a marble for the race", they would be able to specify the name of an anime, and then one marble named after that anime would be added to the race. If a different viewer had already bought a marble for the same anime, then the price would be two million. If two users had already bought marbles for it then it would be four million, and so on. If "Start the race" was activated, then Joe would stream the game Marbles on Stream (taking inspiration from The Voting Game), which is a game that lets you simulate marble runs where you can name each marble and see which one makes it to the end first, as a way of randomly choosing between things. He would then start a race containing marbles named after the anime that viewers had specified when they activated "Buy a marble for the race". Then for whichever anime's marble won the race, Joe would watch it on stream.[1]
Rule Changes and Deductions
- 20th June 2022: Joe added the rules that if someone buys a marble, the cost of that marble is deducted from the cost of starting the race, and if someone buys weeb absolution, the cost of it is added to the cost of starting the race.[2] This rule retroactively applied to the previously purchased marbles, but not either of the previously purchased weeb absolutions.
- 31st December 2022: Joe announced that as a Christmas gift, he would be deducting an additional 100 million Monocoins from the cost of starting the race.[3]
- 1st February 2023: Joe accidentally ended the Start the Race challenge instead of extending it, which refunded everyone all of the Monocoins that they had ever paid towards it, which is impossible to undo.[4] Everyone got to keep the extra coins they received, and Joe recreated the challenge, but this time with 346 million Monocoins as the goal. He calculated this new goal based off the coins that had been contributed directly before, as well as each 1 million that needed to be deducted because of each marble, and the 100 million for Christmas. (500,000,000 - 36,905,735 (paid) - 17 * 1,000,000 (marbles) - 100,000,000 (Christmas) = 346, 094,265, rounded down to 346 million).
- 23rd March 2023: During Joe's 100,000 Twitch follower special where he ranked every stream he'd ever done in a tierlist, he gave chat a challenge: He said that his two favourite stream series were Outer Wilds and Persona 4 Golden, and he told everyone to guess which of the two was his favourite in a poll, and if the correct answer won then he'd deduct 100 million Monocoins from the total. The winner of the poll was Persona 4 Golden, and it was correct.[5]
- 1st April 2023: For April fools' day 2023, JADS held an event similar to [[[wiki:the-april-fools-day-bot |the 2022 April fools' day event]]], where a bot would post AI generated messages based on the prior messages posted by specific users. During 2023's event, Joe said that if the bot posted a series of messages without any other users talking in between them, then he would deduct 1 million Monocoins times the number of messages in the streak from the total. The highest streak reached was 24 messages long, so he deducted 24 million Monocoins.
- 4th April 2023: Joe intentionally ended and refunded the Start the Race challenge, so that he could incorporate the newly purchased marbles into the total. But this time, he realised that the last time that he calculated the new total, he had deducted 1 million for each of the gifted marbles, rather than just for the purchased ones, which he didn't want to do. So the new total was: 346,000,000 (old total) - 19,387,123 (paid since 1st February) - 6 * 1,000,000 (non-gift marbles since 1st February) + 2 * 1,000,000 (gifted marbles from before 1st February) - 100,000,000 (follower milestone stream) - 24,000,000 (April fools' day) = 198,612,877, rounded up to 200,000,000.[6]
- 29th June 2023: Joe made the rulling that if someone receives a marble for free, then they can pick an anime that has already been chosen, even though a duplicate anime marble would normally cost double if they were paying for it.[7] Had this been stated earlier, then in both the JADS Christmas 2022 anime marble contest and the JADS 2023 anime marble vote, there would have been no need for the rule stating that you can't pick an anime that already has a marble for it.
