There are collectible coins in the Danganronpa games called Monocoins, which are named after a character called Monokuma. Joe got annoyed by how tedious it was to find Monocoins in Danganronpa 1, which made them memorable enough that when Twitch introduced channel points, he decided to call his channel points Monocoins.

Missing Information
This work is missing core information, if you know it, please add it to the article.

The design of the Monocoin logo for the channel points was drawn by Marik Bentusi. However, the icon wasn't drawn to look exactly like the actual Monocoins from Danganronpa, which have Monokuma's face on them. Instead, Marik made them look like the checkers piece enemies from Deltarune chapter 1, which had recently come out at the time. This was because he assumed that Joe would play it soon, so it would be funny when he played it and realised. Except Joe actually played Deltarune chapter 1 about two years later, so it ended up being the furthest in advance set-up joke in stream history.[1]

Monocoins are represented by the emote jphCoin, which is the same design as the channel points logo.

Not to be confused with JASB Monocoins which are a distinct currency for the stream bets website, where longer-term bets are made.

The original set of Monocoin rewards were created:

  • Make Joe dab. His ex-wife Lili would have to observe the dab to confirm to chat that he did in fact dab.
  • Make Joe read out a dad joke from his dad joke book.
  • Make Joe say that your waifu is best girl.[2]

Joe added the reward "Weeb Absolution", for one million Monocoins. Joe said that redeeming this would make you not a weeb anymore.

All rewards apart from Weeb Absolution were removed because the number of people who were redeeming them was becoming unmanageable and because Joe had issues with the way his viewers were behaving.

A Twitch user called Edicus became the first person to redeem Weeb Absolution.[4] This was because Twitch channel point bets had recently been introduced, so he was able to amass lost of Monocoins by winning lots of bets which the mods set up. After he did, Joe raised the price of Weeb Absolution to two million Monocoins and said "I didn't think anyone could actually get it".

Joe started The Anime Marble Race and added the rewards "Start the race" and "Buy a marble for the race".

A Twitch user called Alsna became the second person to redeem Weeb Absolution, at its raised price of two million Monocoins.[5] This was especially impressive because they could've bought two marbles instead, but they decided not to. Joe didn't raise the price of Weeb Absolution after this.

A Twitch user called jeheons became the third person to be granted Weeb Absolution, although not by purchasing it. They sent a chat message saying that they couldn't participate in channel point bets because of the anti-gambling laws in their country, and then asked Joe if they could have Weeb Absolution for free. Joe accepted their offer, making them the first person to ever obtain Weeb Absolution without purchasing it.[6]

Joe created a new channel point reward called "Anime Bestgirl Channel Post Privilege", which cost 1.2 million Monocoins and would allow the buyer to post one message in the new JADS channel #anime-bestgirl-discussion. Only Joe had permission to post in the channel to begin with, and he had only posted a single message there, saying "It's Beatrice."[7]

Within the same stream that this reward was added, Rishabh redeemed it and posted in the channel "Shinobu Oshino is best girl :2blurk:". But then Joe had to delete the message because the character in their message was underage.[8]

Joe also made the ruling that if a user ever redeems Weeb Absolution, their messages will be deleted from #anime-bestgirl-discussion.[9]

BrokenAlex redeemed Anime Bestgirl Channel Post Privilege.[10] This made Joe realise that the whole process was too complicated, so he decided to remove the channel point reward entirely, saying that he'd find a better way of using the #anime-bestgirl-discussion channel in the future. He also refunded both BrokenAlex and Rishabh, and gave them both marbles.[11]
