Moncton NPCs

Joe sometimes talks about how people in his home city of Moncton behave like NPCs in a video game, because they sometimes talk to him on the street about something random with no introduction. One of the anecdotes he recounted the first time he talked about this phenomenon - which is the most well-known and frequently-referenced one - was about how someone stopped him on the street and said "The new stadium down town's almost finished, huh? That'll bring in new jobs to the city." and then walked off.[1]

These are some of the other Moncton NPC stories that Joe has told on stream:

  • Someone said to him "Just bought a scratch card. Gonna go home and scratch it. Hope I win."[1]
  • A supermarket employee said to him "Remember that thunderstorm we had the other day? I was out pushing shopping carts in the storm and I got struck by lightning. Make sure you're not handling metal objects when you're in a storm like that.", and then rolled up his sleeve to reveal a lightning strike burn mark.[1]
  • Joe bought a bunch of flowers for Lili, and as he was walking home, several people said "Nice flowers" to him. Then one person said "Aww, are these for me?" as a joke, and Joe played along with it so as to not be awkward and said "yes", at which point they took his flowers and walked off, and it took Joe a while to find them again to get the flowers back.
  • There's a person who works on one of the tills at the grocery store Joe goes to who once told him about the time she went skydiving, completely unprompted. She still says odd things to him sometimes.[2]
