Patch-chan is the embodiment of "the 4 gigabyte patch", which is a program that you can run alongside old PC games to make them use 4 GB of virtual memory instead of 2 GB, which makes them crash less frequently on modern PCs. During Joe's streams of Deadly Premonition, the game kept crashing, and people in chat kept on telling him to download the 4 gigabyte patch.[1][2] But Joe didn't understand what this was, so he thought it was a mod for the game and that the file for it was 4 GB in size. This became a running joke up until the point that Joe couldn't progress beyond a certain part of the game because it always crashed there, resulting in chat convincing him to install the patch.[3]

Patch-chan was drawn by Paddle. She's depicted as being a sort of private investigator, with Eric as her side-kick, and Breaker-chan as the criminal she's hunting down.
