There's a character in Ace Attorney 1 called Redd White who likes to make up complicated-sounding words to make himself sound more intelligent. The first time Joe heard him say a made-up word, the word was "cogniferous". He was using the word to mean "cognizent", but he combined it with "coniferous" to make the word "cogniferous". Because this was the first time Redd had made up a word, and because Joe is always eager to learn new words when he hears them for the first time in media, he Googled it, and saw that it's not a real word.[1]

This meme is represented by the emote JphCoggers and its animated variant JphCog, which depict Redd White.

From this moment on, chat decided to use "cogniferous" in conjunction with He doesn't know to create "He is not cogniferous." This is why jphCoggers is a variation of Twitch's LUL emote. Cogniferous is sometimes abbreviated to just "coggers".
