On the 20th of February 2020, a Discord user called Top Loli posted a poorly-drawn image of a red dog in JADS. The image was an edit of the cheems meme dog, where he had tried to make it look like Joe's red dragon persona. He titled the image "Jomseph", which is a combination of "Joseph" and "Cheems".
This image almost instantly became a popular meme in JADS, leading to it getting turned into an emote on the server. It also started getting called just "Joms" instead of "Jomseph". However, Joe insisted that he would never make it an emote on his Twitch channel, and that Joms would never become a stream meme, even though it did sometimes get mentioned on stream.[1]
"Jom can go fuck himself. He's unfit to lead." ~ Joseph Anderson[2]
On the 30th of January 2021, Top Loli got banned from JADS for pinging the @mod role multiple times after being told not to.
On 16th April 2021, Twitch streamer ArkKnox from the Joseph Anderson community reached a high enough follower count to add an emote to her channel, so she made her first emote Joms. She then organised a "Jom raid" on Joe's next stream, where lots of people would subscribe to her channel to unlock the emote (or unlock it with channel points), then join Joe's stream and start spamming the emote in his chat.[3][4] After Joe noticed what was happening, he eventually gave in to the temptation and posted a joms in his own chat, because someone had gifted him a sub to ArkKnox's channel.[5]
After a while of viewers expressing interest towards potential Joms merchandise, Joe negotiated with Top Loli about acquiring the rights to Joms. Then on 7th March 2023 he announced that he had acquired the rights by accepting Top Loli's offer, which was that Joe had to send him a picture of his feet.[6]
On 18th September 2023, Joms was added as an emote to Twitch streamer Criken's channel via BTTV,[7] after Twitch user NayaVoras redeemed a channel point reward on his channel to add an emote of her choice.[8] The following day, Twitch user ZerstorenHV did the same thing on Twitch streamer Strippin's channel,[9] from which it then spread to ItmeJP's channel, who is a streamer he's friends with. Joms is still present in these communities to this day.
On the 22nd of October 2023, Top Loli got unbanned from JADS thanks to Joe convincing the mods to consider letting him back in.
On the 10th of January 2025, Joe added the jphJoms emote to his Twitch channel.
